During the 2014 Movieguide Awards, GeekRockTV talked to Sterling Jones about what he has been up to as an actor! His love of the arts and support for other creators brought him to the awards and Geek Rock TV couldn’t be more excited to find out more about him.
With his movie, Lone Survivor out in theaters, he talked about his experience on set with an iconic cast. The movie focuses on a team of Navy SEALs who are sent on a mission in Afghanistan. This intense movie is full of suspenseful moments experienced by the characters, such as being outnumbered or outgunned. Lone Survivor turned out to be a box office success in its first couple weeks, and he is quick to express his pride in the movie.
In addition to his box office hit, he worked on the movie Very Good Girls with stars like Elizabeth Olsen and Richard Dreyfuss! The movie is about two girls (Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen) who make a pact to lose their virginity but fall for the same guy. The Texas native has a lot more projects in store and can be found on IMDb if you are interested!
Host: I’m here with Sterling Jones, from Lone Survivor. How are you?
Sterling: Hello, how are you?
Host: Where is your accent from, because I know that accent from somewhere. I have really good ears!
Sterling: Really? I’m originally from Texas. But that only comes out when I’m drinking and I’m sober right now. So maybe, I said y’all!
Host: Maybe it was just me. I usually have a good ear. I’m from New York.
Sterling: Oh New York! What part of New York are you from?
Host: I’m from Queens, you ever been there?
Sterling: I’ve been to Queens many times.
Host: Well I’m from Flushings. We’re pretty nice, you know. You can come around the neighborhood. Anyways what brings you out here to the 22nd Movieguide awards?
Sterling: Well you know, just some entertainment, some artistic fun, and just some supporting of the arts.
Host: I saw your movie, actually the trailer. So, when is it coming out?
Sterling: It’s been out. You obviously didn’t do your homework. I’m kidding!
Host: I’m sorry. I thought I saw it! Oh no that was the other, Lone Ranger.
Sterling: (Laughs) Yeah, Lone Survivor. It’s been out for 6 weeks now. We’ve been killing it in the box office. It’s been doing very well.
Host: Now what inspired you to be in this genre?
Sterling: My bank account being empty and needing a job.
Host: And your publicist pushing you and all that.
Sterling: Yes, and that was my inspiration. And also, the fact that this script is amazing and all the people that signed onto this was amazing. To be in the presence of Mark Wahlberg, Eric Bana, Taylor Kitsch. The list goes on of these guys that are amazing. I was honored and flattered to be able to be a part of the film.
Host: Do you have any projects coming up this year?
Sterling: Yes, I did a film called Very Good Girls. Demi Moore and Richard Dreyfuss, and Lizzy Olsen. The list goes on and on.
Host: You’re in good company Sterling.
Sterling: It’s insane that cast, and you see my name!
Host: How did I get here? I’m just Sterling. No I’m kidding!
Sterling: Exactly! I’m just Sterling. Exactly! That’s what my shirt says under here!
Host: Where can we find you online so we can find out more about you?
Sterling: You can google my name.
Host: Great! Why didn’t I think of that!
Sterling: I know! Sterling Jones. Very simple. I don’t really have a website or anything. IMDb? I don’t know.
Host: I hope I can encourage you to get one.
Sterling: You want me to get a website?
Host: I think you should get one. And a Facebook!
Sterling: I have a fan page that was set up? Yeah, Sterling Jones on Facebook is what they have it as. Anyways I get a lot of messages from people I don’t know and it makes me feel special.
Host: It makes you feel like people know you. Like hey, I’m just Sterling!… Alright Sterling thank you so much for being here and have a wonderful night.
Sterling: Thank you so much.
