2015 | TLC & Nelly

Anyone who grew up in the 90s or early 2000s and listened to hip hop to any degree would be familiar with the names Nelly and TLC. TLC as in T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chili. Not tender loving care. Nelly is remembered for the unique sound he brought to hip hop when introducing the world to his number one bestselling single country grammer while TLC was just the greatest all female group to debut in R&B. TLC also brought a unique sound to their music as they had meaningful lyrics, great vocals, and one of them was the dedicated rapper of the group. For those that don’t know, it was Left Eye.

Nelly and TLC performed as openers for The New Kids on The Block, but that didn’t necessarily make their performance any less exciting. Nelly played to the crowd fairly well as he performed his top selling songs. Despite the fact that Nelly performed the opening performance and most people were likely there for The New Kids on The Block, many in the audience still sang along and participated in his performance. Hundreds of young women’s voices could be heard singing along with his song ‘Hot in Here’ as he worked the stage.

Though there’s never been a rapper to perform at a concert and not bring some friends along that have nothing to do with the song, but perform it on stage anyway. However, to his credit Nelly did not crowd the stage with friends performing with him, nor did he heavily rely on dancers. Overall he did a fairly good job at not over-crowding the stage with dancers or random people and still managed to get the crowd on their feet.

While the crowd had their fun during the Nelly performance, screams loud enough to burst an eardrum or at least be heard from down the street occurred once TLC was up to perform. While Nelly was about playing to the crowd, TLC focused on their performance. They began with their song ‘Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg’ and kept the high energy flowing, dancing and all, all the way up until they turned it down for their bestselling song ‘Waterfalls’. And they did not disappoint. They sang their songs and danced along with back up dancers with kind of energy that would make a K-Pop group jealous.

Overall, both Nelly and TLC put on great performances that definitely gave me some nostalgia. Also, I learned that if you really like a song you will not forget the lyrics even if it has been years since you have heard it.

About Nelly:
Nelly began his solo career after debuting his hit album Country Grammer in 2000 eventually becoming number one on the Billboard 200 as well as his bestselling album. He continued his streak of producing number one hits such as “Hot in Here” and “Dilemma” (featuring Kelly Rowland) which won him the Grammy Award for Best Male Rap Solo Performance in 2003. This success eventually led him to creating the hit single “Shake Ya Tailfeather” (featuring Diddy and Murphy Lee) for the Bad Boys 2 movie soundtrack which was released in theaters later that year. Not long after producing that single Nelly won another Grammy Award in 2004.

B.A | Japanese | San Diego State Univ.
My name is Eddieson. I’m an open minded dreamer that likes to look for new opportunities, experiences, and challenges in life to make things a bit more interesting. After graduating from San Diego State University with a Japanese degree and minor in Business,  I landed an office job in Shinjuku, Japan where I dealt with online marketing matters as well as content creation. Though I come from an international business background I could never escape the alluring call of an emotionally manipulating story, regardless of the medium, that could turn the toughest body builder into a two year old child watching The Muppets and eating “pig newtons”. So long as the story is well done it doesn’t matter to me whether it’s presented as a comic, video game, anime, book, movie, or even an interpretive dance with bananas and jello. After some intense independent study I have not only been more than inspired to join the industry, but brought to a point where I wonder why I gave up pursuing this stuff in college and turned to a course of pulling my hair out before each exam. Regardless, I love stories and hope to be presented with the opportunity to tell my own; most likely through writing. With a fire in my heart and goals set I am actively gaining skills each day to hopefully one day help others in their endeavors as well as achieve my own dreams. |Instagram @BlaEddieBlaView My Blogs
