Crazy Ms. Keen has been what some might call the Walter White of Fox’s Gotham because of her drastic transformation throughout the show’s 3 seasons and spurts of teetering mental sanity. Erin Richards is just as intimidating in real life (possibly due to the British accent) as she is on screen playing Barbra who has surpassed the traditional role of wife and now is one of the dominating forces of Gotham. One half of the modern day Thelma & Louise, Barbra has utilized her relationship with co-star Jessica Lucas (who plays Tabitha) as one way of discovering her unstable and antagonistic role in relation to Jim Gordon. Barbra Keen is a powerhouse of a character and we get an inside view to what Richards believes to be some on the authentic reasons behind the character.
After a number of entanglements with her ex-fiancé Jim Gordon in addition to familial massacres Barbra Keen as risen to the top tier of Gotham’s underworld, that is until we see the inclusion of the Court of Owls. Richards notes how she uses Nyma/Riddler as an asset to attain more power and attempt to get rid of the Court however we soon learn that both villains are out of their league. We also see a new perspective on the Barbra/Tabitha relationship one that does not follow Lucas’s description of the duo. Richards notes how they are good or each other and offers praise to Tabitha for being a skilled fighter. Richards also discusses the sexuality of her character and wishes to pursue the matter of bisexuality in a way that normalizes it rather than magnifies it. Barbra is a complicated woman who has gone through an immense change throughout the series and will continue to progress the level of womanhood in the show.
