Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) finds himself face first in a time-traveling adventure. After meeting with his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown- “Doc”- (Christopher Lloyd), Marty is introduced to Doc’s newly modified DeLorean, one with capabilities of doing the impossible: traveling throughout time. However, before Doc and Marty get a chance to take the DeLorean for a spin, Doc is shot down by a group of terrorists who once had the plutonium that powered the DeLorean. Just before his passing, he sets the DeLorean to the day he discovers time travel: November 5, 1955. As Marty escapes the terrorists, he accidentally activates the time machine and finds himself trapped in the 1950s. Here, he begins his quest to find a much younger Doc, but in turn, also finds his very own parents during their high school years. This then creates a stickier situation, as the ability to alter his future becomes reality with each accidental interaction he has with his parents. Eventually, young Doc comes to the conclusion that without the plutonium that brought Marty to 1955, that they had to rely on the power of mother nature: a single bolt of lightning. As they prepare for Marty’s trip back, he rushes to find his young versions of his parents to correct his mistakes and ensure he has a future. As Marty successfully ensures his parents’ relationship and eventual marriage, he finally makes the trip back home to his time. Before he leaves, Marty insists on warning Doc about his unfortunate demise, to which he insistently refused to listen to in fear of altering the future. Hopelessly, Marty returns back to the present in 1985 but is met with the surprise that 1955 Doc had listened to him after all, and in turn survives the shooting in his present time. Relieved that his friend survives- along with the fact that the DeLorean and time travel itself was a success-, Marty discovers that his reality as he knew it had been altered as they were warned. This then launches Marty into a whole other adventure, with Doc insisting that he now needs his help to travel to the year of 2015 to save his future grandchildren.
