This year, the San Diego County Fair 2019 takes you to The World of Oz. This Ozsome summer, follow the yellow brick road where you can expect games, foods, rides, concerts, shopping and even see some friendly animals with your friends and family. For those who are attending, go early! There will be traffic. Start to plan out for the day and upcoming activities. Look at the website for additional information to help you better prepare for the best fair experience for you, your family and friends. Also, stay hydrated and wear appropriate clothing while walking around under the sun and bring a hoody for when it gets cold!
Food: The first thing I did was look at all the food vendors. There’s a variety to choose from. There was this combo deal that you get waffle fries and a drink for $10. One has to order a burger or hotdog and I ended up choosing a huge hotdog along with my fries and strawberry lemonade. (I’m not a drinker, so the lemonade hit the spot! Of course, there are also other drinks for many to choose from that are non-alcoholic). After that, I took some time to walk around the park before finally deciding to try the Deep-fried Oreos. For those who love chocolate in general, this is something you shouldn’t miss! It’s topped off with powder and chocolate syrup.
Animals: Feeding Goats! One of the fun and exciting things that put a smile on not just my face, but the families around me were feeding Goats at the CA Grown area. The whole atmosphere was like a farm. You get to see many animals, learn about plants, insects and take pictures on tractors. As I went to the Goats, one only pays a dollar for their food and feed them. People are allowed to walk around near them for free. As I looked around, a lot of kids with their families took pictures and had fun. The Goat I fed jumped to hung on the top of the rail trying to get the rest of the food from my hand. It felt therapeutic to be surrounded by these adorable animals.
Festivals: To my surprise, I came across the Asian and Pacific Islander 3rd Festival event, located at the Ballast Point Paddock Stage area. I had no prior knowledge about it. They had a list of many performers from the people in the Asian and Pacific Islander Community; representing, Japan, Philippines, Korea, Polynesia, etc. I sat there on the grass and recognized the Kpop songs they played from the older generation/songs I would listen to in my middle to high school days. From Big Bang’s “Haru Haru”, Shinhwa “Perfect Man”, Lee Hyori’s “10 Minutes”, SHINee’s “Replay”, and to even Super Junior’s “Sorry Sorry”. I was able to see the San Diego Kimono Club where the various women get to model their Kimonos. Additionally, they even danced to Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”. The performance was fun as the audience cheered for these women for their beautiful performance. It was refreshing to see many faces from this community to people to enjoy.
My experience at the fair was fun! Walking around admiring the atmosphere is a great way to have some fun for your summer this year. To read more about this years fair, you can check our article here and their official website.
